This page explains what we do with your details when you ring us, message us or use the enquiry form. Ivan's Plumbing is the data controller. Our address and company number are in the footer.
What we collect
- Your name, phone number, postcode and whatever you tell us about the job.
- Any photographs you send us of the problem.
- For work we carry out: the address, an invoice, and the certificates we are required to issue.
Why we hold it
To quote for the work, to turn up at the right address, to invoice you, and to honour the guarantee if something needs putting right later. We do not buy or sell contact details, and we do not send marketing unless you ask us to.
In data protection terms, the lawful basis is that you asked us to do something: taking steps at your request before a job is agreed, and then carrying the job out. For records of completed work the basis is different — we are required to keep them by HMRC and by our insurer.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that don't lead to work are deleted within twelve months. Records of completed jobs are kept for six years, which is what HMRC and our insurer require.
Who else sees it
Our accountant, for invoices. Netlify, who host this site, receive and store whatever you type into the enquiry form so that it can reach us. Our email and phone providers, as part of carrying the message. Where a job requires a certificate to be registered, the relevant scheme. Nobody else.
If you are writing from outside the UK
This site is hosted by Netlify, a company based in the United States, and anything you put into the enquiry form passes through their servers before it reaches us. If you are in the European Union, that is a transfer outside the EEA, made under the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. If you would rather your details did not leave the country, ring or send a message instead of using the form — the number is on every page.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it. Write to the email address below and we will answer within a month. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, which is the UK regulator. If you are in the European Union, you can go to the data protection authority in your own country instead.
Cookies and what is stored
There is no advertising on this site and no analytics. Nothing here follows you to other websites. Four things are worth naming:
- Your light or dark choice, and your answer to the cookie question. Both stay in your own browser, are never sent to us, and exist so the site stops asking.
- The booking calendar is run by Cal.com, and it sets its own cookies. It is switched off until you allow it, and you can change your mind from the link at the bottom of any page. Refusing it costs you nothing — the form and the phone work the same.
- The enquiry form is handled by Netlify, who host this site. What you type reaches Ivan by email and is not used for anything else.
- The typefaces are currently fetched from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google to collect them and Google can see your IP address. No cookie is set by this.
If you refuse, nothing is stored beyond the refusal itself.
